Reading this took me 16 months back when I started talking to a clinical psychologist. There is a lot of unraveling that can be done in terms of one's psychology. No one lays much emphasis on this thing b/w our ears. Iga Swiatek might me the first lawn Tennis player to have full time sports psychologist travelling with her. When Madison Keys won Australian Open this year, she was asked what lead her to win her first grand slam, her straight away answer was Lots of Therapy. Francesco Puppi has talked about therapy, Jennifer Lichter also.
And talk about discipline sometimes can be avoidance is the one line that it hit me hard. I knew your journey would be full of emotional turmoil as injuries are a way to introspect as well. Hope you are doing okay. :)
Wow thank you for such for your message. It’s so true, no one really prepares you for how much of sport (and life) is psychological. We’re taught to push through, to be “disciplined,” to toughen up… but rarely to pause and ask why we’re pushing. Therapy has been such a powerful part of this process for me, not just for recovery but for redefining what strength means altogether. Iga, Madison, Francesco, Jennifer - I love that so many athletes are starting to speak openly about this side of performance. It’s humanising and hopeful. Thank you for being part of this conversation too
I just consume sports like I am paid for it. I don't know if you know or not Emilia Brangefalt (Swedish trail runner) took her own life, that poked n number of questions in my mind. Why she took this decision even though she had represented her country in world champs, she has a great name in the trail running world even though she was just 21. What kind of things she was facing that made her do this, she was successful if we look if from other people's lense but that said it all that we just a blip of someone's lives and then judge everything on the basis of that. We got reach out to people when we are suffering & we should keep a check on our loved ones if they are going through something even though they are not vulnerable to share as sometimes the person suffering does not have the will to share or might be others reasons as well.
beautiful and resonating 🫶🏽 starting therapy was the best decision and honestly gives you a tool for life 🌞 thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Totally agree, it honestly feels like unlocking a superpower. So glad it’s been such a game-changer for you too 🌞💛
Maddy, going to see a psychologist takes so much courage. It is so vulnerable to ask for help, but the best decision to ever make <3 Take care !
Thank you so much Sarah 🫶 It definitely felt scary at first but I’m already realising how worth it it is. Grateful for your kind words and support xx
